American scientists have named a blood group that increases the risk of death from coronavirus. The results of the study conducted by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) are published in the scientific journal PLOS Genetics.
As part of the study, more than 3,000 blood proteins were analyzed. Among them, those that increase the risk of hospitalization and death with coronavirus were identified. It turned out that the owners of the second blood group are more likely to have complications, and they also need respiratory support.
Scientists noted that the study will help change tactics in the fight against coronavirus, but additional research is needed for final conclusions.
