In cancer patients, the protective effect of coronavirus vaccines disappears faster. However, booster injections restore it, as a study by Israeli scientists has shown.
Israeli experts led by Dr. Hagai Ligumsky have proven that vaccination against coronavirus provides a protective effect for almost everyone who goes through it. But in some people it disappears much faster. In particular, this applies to cancer patients, whose level of protective antibodies drops quite quickly after vaccinations.
But third doses of vaccines or revaccination help to raise this level, as the same study showed. This means that two standard doses are not enough for cancer patients, they definitely need a booster injection. It should be noted that in Israel, the fourth injections are already being deployed for patients who had booster injections a few months ago. And such an approach is being carefully studied in other countries of the world.
The study showed that before revaccination, the level of protective antibodies in cancer patients was much lower than in their peers who did not have tumors, who went through the first course of vaccination at the same time. Consequently, cancer patients were less protected by the initial injections, although others still had a fair level of protection. For cancer patients, coronavirus is especially dangerous, it can aggravate an already deplorable state of health and lead to death.
