Scientists from the Institute of Psychology at Heidelberg University in Germany have revealed at what age the brain is overtaken by irretrievable aging. Experts found out this by testing their hypothesis with a number of studies, their results are published in the journal Nature Human Behavior.
Researchers have found that cognitive abilities are not related to the speed of reaction, which begins to slow down at the age of 20. Scientists conducted online testing of more than 1.2 million people, the participants of the experiment were asked a variety of questions. Everyone had a different response rate. Scientists noticed that slower responses were caused by the fact that with age people become more thoughtful and cautious, they try to avoid incorrect answers. Also, motor reaction changes over time, including it affects the speed of pressing buttons on the keyboard.
In the end, scientists found out that mental abilities do not decrease until the age of 60.
Researchers believe that this understanding will allow us to look at age-related changes that occur with people in a different way in the future.
