Ultrasound of the pericardium is a method of ultrasound imaging of the outer shell of the heart using special sensors. The study allows us to assess the pericardium, its thickness and the size of the pericardial bag, and also gives a general idea of the nature and volume of the available fluid. The technique is most often used in the process of primary diagnosis of inflammatory processes in order to determine the pathological fluid in the cardiac sac and assess the effect of pericardial effusion on the heart. It is prescribed for the detection of pathological formations in the pericardium. Ultrasound of the pericardium is performed on an outpatient basis, according to indications, ultrasound of the heart is performed simultaneously. The cost increases when combining pericardial sonography with echocardiography.
