Double chin is formed by fat and skin folds under the edge of the lower jaw and in the neck area. The appearance of a second chin significantly reduces the attractiveness of the face, makes the profile unsightly, visually adds extra years and kilograms, so its owners have a great desire to get rid of this disadvantage as soon as possible. Correction of double chin can be performed using conservative cosmetic methods (mesotherapy, ozone therapy, myostimulation, thermolifting) or surgically (liposuction).
General information
The face is a business card of a person, by which you can assess his health, mood, character, and the chin on it is an important and noticeable part. In many literary works, introducing the reader to the appearance of their hero, writers usually devoted a few words and a description of his chin to create a more accurate portrait of the character. Regular, proportional facial features with a chiseled chin have always been considered a manifestation of beauty and harmony, which both men and women dream of. One of the unpleasant aesthetic disadvantages of the appearance is the presence of a second chin, which may appear as early as the age of twenty.
Causes of double chin
Genetic predisposition (heredity) determines the individual characteristics of the skin and metabolism. In people prone to the formation of a second chin, as a rule, there is a slow biosynthesis of proteins, as a result of which the restoration of collagen occurs less intensively.
Excess weight (obesity) in combination with poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle also contributes to the formation of fat deposits in the chin and cheeks.
Violation of posture due to weakness of the back muscles or improper habits (lowering your head low when walking, reading, sleeping on a high pillow, slouching, etc.) creates an additional load on collagen and elastin fibers, their ability to maintain subcutaneous fat and skin elasticity decreases. Conversely, the habit of holding your head straight and sleeping on a low pillow gives your neck beauty and tightness.
In addition, a sharp weight loss leads to the formation of “excess” skin and skin folds in the chin area, since weak facial muscles allow sagging subcutaneous fat tissues.
Age (after 45 – 50 years) a decrease in the elasticity of the facial skin occurs as a result of a natural slowdown in the processes of regeneration and trophic processes in the skin and tissues. The skin becomes dry, more flabby, wrinkled, deforming the oval of the face.
Correction of double chin
In order to have a long-term result, the “struggle” with double chin should include, in addition to cosmetic effects and physical exercises, lifestyle changes (proper nutrition, weight control, posture, active movements). You can try to get rid of a small second chin with the help of special gymnastics. In addition, the face (including the chin and neck area) must be given proper care: with the use of tonics, moisturizers and nutrients, lifting creams, tightening masks, serums. With regular and proper use, these tools are highly effective. You can also resort to cosmetic procedures: myostimulation, lifting, mesotherapy, photo rejuvenation, ozone therapy, vacuum massage. The prescribed treatment is strictly individual, the cosmetic program should correspond to the specific characteristics of the patient’s skin, his health indicators.
If double chin is clearly pronounced, there are age-related changes (in people over 40 years old), and no means help, you can solve this problem with plastic surgery.
To remove excess adipose tissue in the chin area, you can use the method of miniliposuction. This operation is carried out through mini-incisions (no more than 0.5 cm), does not leave postoperative scars. Weakened neck muscles for better reduction and correction of the oval of the face are tightened by ligature lifting (implantation of special non-allergenic, absorbable threads). At the same time, the cheeks are additionally removed.
Simultaneously with the removal of double chin, it is possible to perform surgical correction of the chin – mentoplasty (i.e., reducing or increasing the volume of the chin by various methods of plastic surgery). Mentoplasty makes it possible to improve the profile and proportions of the face, not only eliminate double chin and sagging skin in the neck area, but also rejuvenate the decollete area, create a beautiful facial contour. Chin plastic surgery is sometimes combined with rhinoplasty, an increase in the volume of the cheekbones and cheeks, which achieves a greater rejuvenating effect.
During bone grafting, the chin bone itself undergoes correction. Incisions are made in the oral cavity, so there are no postoperative scars.
It is possible to correct the oval of the face with the help of silicone facial implants made of biocompatible, safe materials. The size and shape of the implants is selected by the doctor individually. The operation is performed under local or intravenous anesthesia, its duration is 1.5-2 hours. Incisions are made in natural folds or in the oral cavity, and subsequently the seams become invisible.
Plastic surgery of the cheekbones and chin area can be performed by injecting adipose tissue cells of the patient himself (lipofilling). Chin plastic surgery is recommended to be done after the end of bone formation, not earlier than 23-25 years.
