Of course, washing your hair is not rocket science. However, many people have serious problems with this. In order not to harm your hair, you should follow some rules.
According to trichologists, the vast majority of people perform this procedure, which has been familiar to everyone since childhood, incorrectly. As a result, for years, improper washing of the head leads to the fact that the follicles are clogged so much that folliculitis begins. The problem occurs even in owners of outwardly very beautiful hair.
It is very difficult to take care of long and thick hair, besides it is almost impossible to see something on the scalp on your own. You can see the real picture through a trichoscope. Especially the trichologist’s reception will be useful for those who, seemingly for no reason, have less hair, they grow worse, thin out and become brittle. Very often, the reason for such a problem lies precisely in the wrong washing of the head. When washing, it is important to release the follicles from excess sebum. Otherwise, it will be difficult for new hair to break through the thickness of fat and dandruff. On the trichoscope, you can see that the hairs are trying to break out and grow like grass from stones.
So, how to wash your hair properly?
1. We select shampoo only for the type of scalp
Shampoo should always be selected exactly for the scalp, but not for the length of the hair. The most important task of any shampoo is to clean the scalp and let it “breathe”. Therefore, shampoos from split ends, for curly or colored hair are more marketing than real benefits. Using the wrong tool will not only not give the desired result, but over time will lead to unpleasant consequences – aggravation of existing problems and the emergence of new ones.
2. Comb the hair before washing
Do not forget to comb your hair before washing your head. When washing, the hair gets tangled, and if they were tangled initially, and even glued with a styling tool, it will be much more difficult to comb them later.
3. The water should not be too hot
Before applying shampoo, wet the hair with water. Keep an eye on the water temperature. It should be warm or slightly cool, but not hot. Hot water increases the amount of sebum secreted by the scalp. This happens as a result of drying the skin with hot water.
4. Apply shampoo on the scalp, not on the hair
Pour a small amount of shampoo into one palm and distribute on both, slightly diluting with water. Apply shampoo to the scalp with the palms of your hands. We never distribute shampoo along the length of the hair, and even more so, on the ends of the hair. Shampoo is designed to wash the scalp, but not for the length of the hair. Washing the length with shampoo ruins your hair. When washing off, all the dirt present on the length of the hair will “go away” along with the shampoo foam. The ends of the hair are very fragile and they need to be protected from the effects of detergents.
Many people are used to applying shampoo with one palm on the top of the head, and only then distribute it all over the head. However, with this method, the procedure becomes less gentle, because a large amount of concentrated detergent acts on a small area. Perhaps you have paid attention to women with dyed or tinted hair, namely with uneven coloring. By the place where the paint is washed off the strongest and fastest, it is easy to guess exactly how some of them wash their hair.
5. Wash without injuring the skin
Thoroughly clean the scalp during washing, but without excessive fanaticism, preventing the appearance of microtrauma and cracks. During this procedure, many people try to clean only the hair rods, that is, the visible part of the head, from contamination. You also need to do this, but you need to wash your scalp even more thoroughly. The face and head are the most polluted areas of the human body, and since they are not covered with clothing, dust and soot in large quantities settle on these areas of the body.
6. Apply a balm or conditioner only to the hair
We apply these products only to the hair, without affecting the scalp. Otherwise, the hair will become heavier and you will not get the desired root volume.
7. Rinse with cool water
It is better to rinse the hair after washing with cool water. Especially if the hair is weakened or prone to falling out. This method will help strengthen the follicles and close the cuticle scales. After washing, do not rub your hair with a towel, as you risk damaging them. Wrap your hair in a towel and wait a few minutes: the fabric will absorb excess moisture.
8. First dry, then comb
That’s right – first dry your hair and only then comb it. Wet, and even more so wet hair is fragile and easily damaged. It is better to comb your hair with a brush with sparse bristles.
If you are not sure that you really clean your scalp well during washing, try contacting professionals. Perform one hair improvement procedure in a clinic or salon, and then independently perform the necessary procedures at home. The procedure for improving the hair of specialists involves a warming mask, peeling, washing, drying, applying a revitalizing lotion. In some cases, physiotherapy will be required.
